Yakima River Fishing Report // Salmon Fly Nymph Migration

While we wait for the Mother's Day Caddis hatch to absolutely blow up, which should happen in the next 2 weeks the Salmon Fly Nymphs are currently migrating toward shore to hatch.  These big nymphs live in swift water and crawl out onto the shore at night, undergo a metamorphosis, and the adults do a pretty good job of hiding from the birds in the trees.

River conditions are still a bit high and dirty, but things are improving and we expect the Teanaway and other tributary streams to drop throughout the week and the river clear up a bit. Our guides continued to work through the weekend's swell up, and we fished both way up on the upper river and in the Lower Canyon.  While we won't claim it to be great fishing, yesterday was ok!  In these conditions you'll find clear water in and around Cle Elum, but the guide traffic can be fairly intense.  In the Lower Canyon you'll find less water clarity but little traffic.  Six one way half a dozen the other.
