Yakima River Report // Hot Tips

The Yakima is in great shape, and looks like it is going to stay that way for the next 5-7 days. The weather looks decent, with some wind but no major rainstorms or enough heat to muddy things up. Plan your trip here with confidence this week!

Changing weather isn't a bad thing, but you need to understand how to leverage it in your favor.  A couple of tips are that Caddis hatches are typically activated by heat, sunny warm days will spur an afternoon/evening Caddis hatch. Plan your day around that and be prepared for that action as the sun angle drops.

Mayflies on the other hand... prefer to hatch when its dark and cloudy. Nastier weather triggers these often fast and furious hatches.  Don't waste any time however, on these cooler days the bite can be ferocious but it will be short.  This means be ready the moment you see bugs wandering down the seamlines.

Partridge Soft Hackle

This soft hackle is tied perfectly with fabulous materials, wire rib, and a great hook. Be wary of "old school" flies as you'll often find them from some cheap discount vendor and have been sitting in a warehouse, or some guy's garage, for years. 

This is a super versatile fly and can be fished dry, damp, or deep nymphed alongside a weighted fly.  Some classy anglers will swing these as well on sink tips, that can be fun but requires a lot of practice IMO.
