Eastern Washington, specifically the Columbia Basin, is very blessed with a number of Spring Creeks, spillways, and canals that can yield spectacular fly fishing throughout the year. Rocky Ford is the most well known of these destinations. Large, finicky Rainbow brood stock - often in the 22" plus range - have made this small Spring Creek near Ephrata a popular year round fly fishing destination. We also guide other creeks that offer the angler an opportunity to test their skills on wild trout in a more challenging and pristine environment. Most fish range in the 10"-18" category, but each day holds potential for landing the trout of a lifetime. Rainbows in the mid 20" range exist, and even larger Browns have come to hand.
The Desert trip is not for everyone. It is a challenging game that can humble the best of anglers. You can expect to encounter rattlesnakes, wood ticks, and brushy fishing conditions on the more remote trips. Tall grass, long hikes, sun burns, and spooky fish are the norm. The rewards; however, can be sweet! Several of the creeks we fish are influenced by irrigation water, and appear less than stellar in some sections, only to flow onto an adjacent piece of property and become the most beautiful and productive piece of water you have ever seen. We utilize nymphs, leeches, dries, and streamers - often all on the same day - to catch these fish. We see some large fish in late Spring on streamers and nymphs, while the second half of Summer is generally the best window to fish Hoppers and other terrestrials.
A Washington Freshwater Fishing License is required for this trip. |

"The creeks of Eastern Washington are truly amazing, I have fished with Red's several times on creeks in the Columbia Basin and have been amazed at not only the large fish, but the adventure and scenery as well. Hiking through tall grass and stalking big trout on small water is a challenging and rewarding event. It is on my 'to do' list every spring".
