Learn
the graceful art of fly fishing in this 2-Day or 3 Day, “on the water” course.
It is packed with informative seminars, hands-on activities and 1-on-1
coaching. All this mixed with great dining, wine, and fishing of course.
You’ll learn fascinating facts about trout and their aquatic habitat; you’ll
observe micro-environments in a trout stream and learn how to “read the water”
for places where hungry rainbows hang out, waiting for their next meal to come
drifting down with the current. Casting clinics will teach you the basics of
the casting stroke and how to tie essential fly fishing knots. You’ll go on a
“bug hunt” to observe and identify some of the insects in a trout’s diet.
You’ll learn what a “fly” is and which insects theses artificial creations
imitate; you’ll learn some of Red’s favorite Yakima fly patterns and have the
opportunity to tie – and later fish with – a fly of your own creation.
Speaking of fishing - each day, you’ll team up with a professional fly fishing
guide and one other angler to head out on the river in one of Red’s handsome
drift boats to try your hand at catching a few wild Yakima River rainbows.
Your guide will show you how to manage your line on the water and effective
techniques to present your fly to waiting trout. You’ll learn how to handle a
fish on your line, gently bring it to the net, and then release it back to the
river unharmed.
