Joe began rowing drift
boats and guiding while studying for his degree in Geography and
Environmental Studies at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
After graduation, he continued guiding and worked for several outfitters
including his own guide service. Eventually, he found a permanent home
at Red’s where he has excelled as a senior member of the guide staff and is
still having a great time guiding and helping run the guiding operations.
Joe has appeared in Fly Rod and Reel, Fly Fisherman, Field and Stream, and
Outdoor Life. He had his first article published in Northwest Fly
Fishing last fall and is hoping to find time for some more writing in years
to come. He is an aspiring "pro" fly fishing photographer.
Nobody's exactly sure what that means in this business, but he has mentioned
it a couple of times and takes some stellar photos.
Joe’s favorite “off river” activity is just goofing off around the house
with his wife Kelly and three young children, Faith, Jensen, and Jacob.
If he isn't at home being a dad, or on the river guiding, it is likely that
he is headed for the
backcountry with a bow and arrow in pursuit of big game. He backpacks
into the wilderness by himself for days at a time. He contends that
backcountry bowhunting grooms dedication, work ethic, and both physical and
mental toughness. Maybe we can get him to apply some of that to his
job!
