Mike has been
a staple at Red's for the past few seasons and is one of our more senior
guides, in fact, over the past few years there aren’t too many that have put
in as many hours on the oars as Mike has. He originally started in the
fly shop for us a few years back and knows every facet of the operations at
Red's. From boat rentals, tent camps, shuttles, gear, fly selection, etc.
He put in many long hours behind the counter which helped teach him the
ropes and gave him the experience needed to dive into the guide game head
first. This combined with Saint-like patience makes him both a "go-to"
guide for the pros and a wizard with beginners as well.
Fortunately for Mike, his whole family loved to fish and camp so he spent
most of his summers growing up in Eastern Washington chasing anything that
swam, primarily trout. As soon as he turned 16, You would find Mike driving
over to eastern Washington every chance he could to fish the Yakima
river. His parents always said that if he would have put in as much effort
into his school work as he did into fishing he would have been a straight A
student and then some!
Since the age of 17 Mike has been working in the fishing industry and He
likes to say that he has never had a “real” job, they have always been too
fun! In 2005 Mike moved to Ellensburg and came to work for Red's right
away. He built a beautiful log home out in the country, and is currently
living out every country boy's dream! Mike and his longtime girlfriend
Jamie got married in march of 2009 and in January of 2010 They had their
first child a little boy named Caiden River Canady. When Mike is not
guiding you will usually find him hanging out with his wife and his son.
They enjoy camping, hiking, and fishing together as a family.
