Shan hails from the
booming Metropolis of Two Dot Montana. As a young man he later moved
with his family to Yakima, Washington. After high school,
he attended Arizona State
University for one year and made the wrestling team, but later returned home
and decided that NCAA Division II wresting was more his style. He went
to Central Washington
University and excelled in wrestling, academics, and was a leading member of
the student body body political machine.
After college he took a job in Clarkston, discovering the Grande Ronde,
Clearwater, and other surrounding streams. He eventually came back
home to Yakima and has been there since and is a proud father of 3 active
boys. BMX bike racing, football, karate and more fill up most of
Shan's time off.
Although Shan has held a lot of interesting jobs and had various business
endeavors in his lifetime, he is most at home when he is holding a set of
oars on the Yakima or Klickitat Rivers. He is one of our staple guides
and has been guiding at Red's for longer than any of our other staff
members. It is pure fun when you are riding in Shan's boat, and nobody
could accuse him of not having a great time guiding. He lives
for it and loves it. Enthusiasm and work ethic go hand-in-hand and
Shan has both of those in the bag.
