Spring might be the best time to take a guided trip on the Yakima River.
Our clients tend to catch a
lot of big fish early in the season! Spring hatches take off in full
force this month and we would love to show you a great adventure.
Yakima River Guided Fly Fishing Trips
The Yakima River is in Washington State about
2 hours east of Seattle. It is a popular day trip for anglers from the Seattle
area, although many guests elect to stay at our lodge. It is considered
a "Big Western" style river and attracts anglers from all over the world.
What do I need to bring?
You don't need to have any fly fishing equipment and there is no extra
charge if you need a rod and reel.
Just bring yourself, a smile, and a few basic items from a packing list that
we email you. What is the guide trip like on the Yakima River?
It is a float style adventure and most fishing is done from a moving drift
boat with 2 anglers in each boat. We float anywhere from 5-20 miles in
a single day depending upon river conditions.
We typically meet at 9:30 am at our fly shop or lodge. Depending upon
conditions, your guide will alter the meeting time to coincide with the best
possible fishing or to accommodate your schedule.
After meeting your guide, he guide will take you out for either a Full or
Half Day trip. Your guide will focus on a combination of instruction
combined with productive fishing technique, and we encourage you to express
any particular requests you might have for the day up front so your guide
can give you the best possible service.
How long do you fish?
A Full Day trip is 8+ hours of fishing and
includes lunch or dinner service. We fish very hard and you will be
tired! A Half Day trip is 4-5 hours of fishing and does not include
lunch. We target the most productive time of day for these trips.
A Washington Freshwater Fishing License is required for this trip.

Testimonial for our Yakima
River Guided Fly Fishing Adventures
"Over the past few years my travels have allowed me to take on
the rivers that you read about, the Madison, Gallatin, Firehole, Snake, Big
Wood, South Platte and others, but without a doubt the Yakima is at the top
of my list. The scenery is awesome, winding from the upper canyon through
the farmlands and back into the lower canyon with fishing as diverse and
beautiful as the landscape around it. Spectacular Cutts in the upper river
to big bows in the lower canyon, it doesn't get any better than this. Just
when I think I've seen it all, the Red's guides show me a new section,
season, or technique."
The Yakima River is a year round catch-and-release fishery for wild Rainbow and Cutthroat trout.
We guide what is considered the "Blue Ribbon" section. It is 75 miles of
river and has the distinction of being Washington's only official Blue Ribbon trout stream.
Trout on the Yakima average 10-16 inches and anything in the 18-20 inch
range is considered a trophy. Occasionally anglers will see fish over 20 inches which is
a trophy trout on any river!

Endless
Fly Fishing Adventure on the Yakima River
The Yakima begins on the Cascade crest above the town of Cle Elum as a relatively small mountain river. In this alpine area, it flows gin clear through a forest dominated by towering firs and pine trees.
We call this the "Upper River".
As it continues East towards Ellensburg, it takes on an appearance more characteristic of a prairie stream, with a Cottonwood river bottom and lots of braided channels.
This is called the "Farmlands".
Approximately 3 miles South of Ellensburg, the Cottonwoods and Timothy hay fields transition into the high sage brush hills and steep basalt walls of the famous "Lower Canyon".
While not everyday can be one for the
record books, most guided fishing days are filled with wonderful
hatches, big trout, some dry fly fishing, and timeless memories.
We can't guarantee good catching every day, but we promise that
our guide staff will do
absolutely everything possible to give you a remarkable guided fly
fishing adventure. This
means meticulous preparation, providing the highest quality flies,
rowing hard, teaching with care, and doing the small things to help
insure that your time spent with a Red's guide is the highest
quality experience that it can possibly be that day. We invite
you to join us. Our professional, polite, and seasoned staff
is guide ready!
