Our Clients Speak
"Spey fishing for steelhead is highly intense and deathly quiet at the same time. I love being exposed to the local knowledge of a guide, but I also appreciate the space and solitude of doing it myself. The Skeena River is great in that way because I can mix a couple of guided days with a couple of solo days. Plus its the world's best steelhead fishing"

To anglers across the globe, steelhead are a highly prized quarry. Not only are the fish themselves beautiful, especially the fresh ones that have an almost translucent color to them that no photo or painting could ever quite capture accurately, but they live in some of the most scenic places in the world.
The Skeena River and its' many tributaries remain one of the best places in the world to pursue wild steelhead with a 2 handed rod and swung fly. Some of these tributaries are extremely remote and not only require complicated logistics to get to, but are also very expensive. This is a gem of a program that caters to the Do It Yourself angler in terms of budget and flexibility. Whether this would be your first time fishing BC or you already know your way around, this is a quality program that you can find great value and convenience in!
The Weekly Fishing Schedule
This itinerary begins with a leisurely Sunday afternoon arrival into Terrace, BC. A rental truck awaits the group in the parking lot, and the lodge is about 25 minutes downstream on the Skeena River!
The local outfitter hosting this trip is Gill McKean of Westcoast Fishing Adventures and his experienced guide team. Gill or one of his crew will join the group the next morning and collect half of the group to fish for the day wherever they decide offers the best opportunity to swing a fly past the nose an aggressive fish. The rest of the group will load up on their own, and go search the waters of the Copper or lower Skeena for that glassy tailout or smooth riffle that might hold one of the trophy steelhead this region is famous for. Everyone will meet up to recap each anglers day over a great dinner prepared by the lodge. Anglers will alternate between guided and DIY fishing to take full advantage of local expertise and the ever changing conditions steelhead anglers may encounter!
Yellow Cedar Lodge is a spectacular facility located along the banks of the Lower Skeena river, and is our home for the week. Rooms are based on double occupancy and have private bathrooms. Included in the package, and prepared daily is a hearty breakfast, sack lunch to go, and chef prepared dinner. Meals are taken in the great room, which is nice to separate those who wish to retire to bed early or sit up and enjoy a cigar and scotch. A large deck offers a perfect spot to step in and out of waders each day. Additional appreciated amenities at the lodge are the hot tub and spa, which can be highly therapeutic after making thousands of casts during the day!
