On the Drop, Looking Good for the Next Week

January 11, 2015

I am still in awe how we went from ice flow to mud flow so fast last week. It was pretty crazy.  Anywho, the river is on the drop so if you got some new gear from Santa and are looking to wet a line things are improving fast.  The Yakima River is dropping and clearing but still on the high side for wintertime. We like it under 2,000 cfs.  Here is a snap shot of the flows as of 8:30 pm Sunday night.

Yakima River Flows
You can see the real time link here, but this image gives you an idea of what is happening.  Give it a few days and we're good to go.  This upcoming weekend looks decent.  The weather forecast is pretty favorable for winter fishing.  It won't be "warm" but it will be warm enough!

If you think of January fishing as cold, miserable, and a bad idea that is ok.  You have a couple of options.  Stay home, go skiing hahahahhaahha yea right, that isn't happening at least in our state right now, or fish someplace tropical.  We have a couple of spots left for single anglers going to Ascension Bay January 24th - 31st, or March 8th - 15th.  Email joe@redsflyshop.com if you want some more information.  It is an easy trip to plan and do.  Just put your money down and we'll plan your flight and all the details.  We can chat by phone and cover all the details and answer your questions, no pressure.

If you are on of the hard core "trout'ers" planning a trip to the Yakima Canyon, look for nighttime lows that stay in the mid 20's at the coldest.  If the air temp hits 40 that is a good day to be on the water.  You can see a weather forecast specific to the Yakima River Canyon right here through our on-site weather station.
