Skagit Tactics Everywhere, Every Day

May 4, 2016

Hi Guys and Gals,

I spoke with Ben Paul at the OPST company yesterday and we decided to put on a clinic for all you guys for FREE on June 4th.  Come get some lessons and learn all about how you can utilize Skagit tactics for your everyday fishing.  It should be a great clinic and a perfect opportunity to try their revolutionary products at no cost to you.  Feel free to bring a rod and they'll provide some lines.

There is no need to RSVP, just show up at 11 am!

FREE Riverside Clinic With Olympic Peninsula Skagit Tactics!

Schedule of Events:

11 am - Introduction to Skagit Style Casting
12 pm - Single Hand Skagit Style Spey Casting
1 pm - Trout Spey Clinic

THIS IS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO BRING YOUR OWN SPEY OR SWITCH ROD AND EXPERIMENT WITH NEW LINES! No cost to you.

We are so excited to be hosting this crew riverside at Red's Fly Shop.  These guys breathe spey fishing.  Their team invented the OPST Commando Heads and are taking Skagit casting into the world of trout and bass. For sure, these lines are fantastic on two hand rods for steelhead, as well as trout. For the new "micro speys" and light two handers there is no better line.

During the "Single Hand Skagit Spey Casting" lecture you'll see some amazing things that you can do with your existing single hand rods and an OPST Commando Head system.

On rods as light as a 3 weight and as short as 6 feet, these lines will amaze you with their versatility, power and ease of casting. No longer do you need a 6 or 7 weight rod for casting streamers. You will be amazed at the size of flies you are able to cast, even on a 7'6" 4 weight fiberglass rod. What this means is that every fish is fun, not just the big ones. While our mantra is "Pure Skagit", that shouldn't make you think that you have to make a sustained anchor Skagit cast. Commando Heads are fantastic for underhand, overhead, roll, and just about any other type of casting you can think of. These heads are designed to be fished with sink or floating tips from 5-10 feet on single handers, and 10-12 feet on two-handers.

Contact Red's or OPST for tip and Commando Head recommendations for your rod.
  1. Great Opportunity! Looking forward to joining you. I have the OPST line for my ECHO 6wt SR. Question: Will you have 7wt and/or 8/wt single hands rods available to test out? Thanks!! Rick in Spokane
  2. Yes sir, they will have lots.
  3. I have the OPST 300 gr with lazer running line. I started out with it on my 9 ft 4 wt but line it better on my 9 ft 6 wt. However I am not sure it I like the lazer line yet, need to work out the kinks every time I use it and it is so small even though 30 lb line. Is there another running line you would recommend? Thanks!
