The Skwala hatch has arrived!
March 4, 2016
We've been fishing everyday this week and have had pretty good success running San Juan worms (red, pink, brown), Stonefly nymphs (Pat's brn/ blk and olive/ brn), and even some Mayfly nymphs (PT's) about 3' under the bobbers. We'd given Skwala dries some playing time each afternoon, but until yesterday we hadn't seen much action on the surface. Our hopes were elevated yesterday, when we saw a couple adults drifting by the boat as we ate lunch on a soft inside corner. We again made the switch to dries, and about 15 minutes later had my first dry fly Rainbow of the season in the net. We added another Cutthroat an hour or so later. While it's not red hot dry fly fishing, the weather is great, the river is in good shape and stable at 3300 cfs, and the pre Spring bloom canyon is beautiful. If you're committed to fishing the dry from about 1 pm on, I think you'll see some action this weekend!

Finally! See you next week.

Is the Ringer boat launch accessible after the road was flooded a few weeks ago?
-
What river and where on river. I go in by foot no boat.
-
Ringer has signs up but I've seen cars drive in there, so the road is not impassable. This is the Yakima River, and we were fishing the lower canyon, which has plenty of roadside access for DIY wade anglers!
