Utilize The Right Boat System for Successful DIY Wade Fishing
October 28, 2017
I want to share with you what I believe is an important understanding of our most popular boat here at Red's Fly Shop. I took our shop Watermaster rental boats for a spin last night and it reminded me how cool these little watercrafts are.
For years we have been selling and teaching anglers how to properly utilize their Watermaster boats. What is a Watermaster boat? In essence its a super high quality one person raft, frameless (so its ultra packable and light), that is capable of getting you anywhere you want to fish. All this and it literally fits in the trunk of a Prius when you break it down. One of our guides has a Prius so I know this to be true haha! Purchase online, pick up at Red's, fish the same day. We do this all the time. Its the most versatile one person boat on the market.
In the video below, I demonstrate using this for spey fishing and working downstream but this strategy works for ALL fishing applications. The Watermaster gives you the ultimate mobility.
Last night I wanted to do a couple of things. First, I am learning how to Euro Nymph which has been my achilles heel in my angling skill set. I have avoided it for years and its time I learn how to do this. Why? Its damn effective. ALL competitive anglers nymph fish this way without a strike indicator. ALL of them. The finesse and touch is that much better for fooling selective trout.
I rigged up my Sage Euro Nymph Fishing Rod and my Redington Hydrogen Trout Spey rod and took the shop Watermaster to the other side of the river yesterday afternoon. It took me about 30 seconds to launch it another 30 seconds to row across the Yakima River at Red's. Since I was just using it for transportation I didn't use any flippers. I parked the boat on the shore and got out and worked on my Euro Nymph game. I managed to land 3 trout in about 30 minutes which for me is pretty darn good. I suck at this type of nymphing, but am getting a little better. Its weird but it is so satisfying when you hook up fish doing this.
Anyway, after I got a few on that setup I decided to throw my Trout Spey rod a total of 2 casts and hooked up a nice trout and I filmed a little promo for my November 4th class. I think we filled up both the 4th and the 11th, but I'll get more offered soon.
We sell two models and a couple of different packages. Both are great options. The Grizzly is a bit smaller. If you are a big dude and possibly want to have some camping gear or a dog on board get the Kodiak.
