Proper Hook Setting Technique for Trout Spey Fishing

Trout spey is great for so many reasons, one of which is that its the ultimate training camp for becoming a proficient spey fisherman.  One thing you can work on is setting the hook!  

With trout its best to be pro-active with a firm downstream set once the fish forms a positive connection with the fly.  On Steelhead you'll need to be more patient and let the fish turn downstream before setting, but either way the downstream set is critical.  Most angler tend to set upstream at first so it can be tough to get this down pat and converted to a knee jerk reflex.
